Special request....

We need your help in spreading the word on the global swim event "Swim for your heart..Feb 14".  On that day swimmers throughout the world will join in thought and action to bring an awareness of heart disease and prevention. It's easy!  On February 14, swimmers will go for a swim and ask family, friends, and co-workers to donate to their local heart association, or local hospital cardiac unit, or local rescue unit.  Please contact your local swim clubs, pool directors, YMCA's, and fitness clubs.  Water aerobic classes, synchronize swimmers and water polo players are welcomed to join this global effort.  Thank you.

Countdown to Feb 14, 2012

In less than five months, swimmers throughout the world will be joining in thought and action to bring an awareness of heart disease and it's prevention.  You are welcomed to join this global event.  It's easy!  Ask family, friends, and co-workers to sponsor you.  All proceeds are sent directly to your local Heart Association, or cardiac rehabilitation center, or rescue unit.  YOU decide which organization will benefit from your swim.   You may decide to swim during your routine swim practice, or organize an event with several other swimmers, some may want to organize a "polar dip", water aerobics work-out, water polo event, or synchronize swimmers event.  This is a global effort.  We hope you will join us.

Big Rick's Swim Team

Congratulations to England's Big Rick's Swim Team for successfully swimming the English Channel as a tribute to their close friend Mark Rickhaus.   Mark died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack at the age of 41.  His friends formed a swim team in his honor.  They have raised a substantial amount of money for the British Heart Association.  Last February, Big Rick's Swim Team joined "Swim for your Heart..Feb 14" in the global effort to bring an awareness of heart disease and it's prevention.  They are to be commended for their effort.

Mexico's Award Ceremony

Mexico Heart Association accepts a donation from Mexico's marathon swimmer Mariel Hawley and Antonio Arguelles, Sport City Fitness Center and cardiologist Dr. Hermes Ilarraza.  Nearly 1700 swimmers in Mexico participated in "Swim for your Heart..Feb 14".  Congratulations to all participants for your achievements in promoting heart disease prevention.

News Coverage

The Inauguaral swim event "Swim for your Heart...Feb 14" was on television news, radio, and newspapers.  In addition,  ESPN Magazine, Balance magazine, Club magazine, and sports' magazine Deporteismo in Mexico wrote about the event.  The articles are in Mexcico's April edition.   Swimmers sent a message throughout the world that we are joined in thought and action to bring an awareness of heart disease and prevention.

Countdown to " Swim for your Heart...Feb 14"

Good luck to all swimmers participating in the "Swim for your Heart..Feb 14" swim.  There has been a tremendous response from the international swim community.  Together we can bring an awareness of heart disease prevention.  A special thank you to Mexican marathon swimmer Antonio Arguelles and Mariel Hawley for organizing 1400 swimmers to participate in Mexico.  And a special thank you to "Big Rick's Outdoor Swim Team" for helping to spread the word and participating in this event in England.  Also, thank you to the many swimmers from other countries and the U.S.    And finally, this "Swim for your Heart..Feb 14" swim was prompted by the tragic death of U.S. swimmer Fran Crippen during a FINA Open Water 19 Km World Cup.  It is a wonderful tribute to him.

Swim for your Heart...Feb 14

All swimmers are invited to join the February 14 swim to raise awareness of heart disease and prevention.  This swim is a global effort to bring attention to the growing health issue of heart disease. It's not to late to plan a swim on February 14.  Get together with your swim friends on that day, talk about heart disease prevention and donate to your local Heart Association.

Momentum is gaining....

More and more swimmers and non-swimmers are joining our cause "Swim for your Heart...Feb 14" to bring an awareness of heart disease.  Please continue to spread the word worldwide.  Every year on February 14 "Swim for your Heart...Feb 14" will be designated as the day that swimmer (and non-swimmers) will unite to bring an awareness of heart disease.
